In the morning of January 29, the Imperial Couple will depart Manila for Caliraya to offer flowers at the Japanese Memorial Garden, a monument for the Japanese war dead. Relatives of the dead will be present during the ceremony.
They will depart Caliraya for Los Baños in the afternoon for a tour of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).
The Emperor and Empress will end their State Visit in the morning of January 30. Read more

Evans Plant Growth Facility (PGF) at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) compound in Los Baños, Laguna to witness the opening of the US$ 10-million state-of-the-art facility that would be dedicated to the study of climate change effects on rice development. If certain environmental warriors were active several decades ago, the so-called miracle rice might never have been developed at the International Rice Research Institute in Los Baños, Laguna. Instead in 1969, the IRRI received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for International Understanding for seven years of interdisciplinary collaboration among Asian and Western scientists to achieve “radical, rapid advances in rice culture” and consequently easing global hunger. Zeigler said, “Unless we can translate our work into meaningful products adopted by rice farmers worldwide, this will remain simply an academic pursuit. The unique partnerships that characterize this program should make sure this happens.” Read more
